table-d-appoint-anchor-53-cm
Anchor side table travertine 53 cm

Anchor is a series of tables whose design comes down to two pieces. Here, a free-form solid wood top, in oak or walnut depending on the version, rests on a cone-shaped travertine base, and a wooden tenon runs down from the top along the stone to fit into a notch. This is the taller of the two side tables in the series, standing 53 cm off the floor.

What its height is good for

At 53 cm, it is the height where you can set down a lamp, a glass or a book without leaning over, at the end of a sofa or beside the bed. The top measures 62.5 by 48.5 cm, enough to hold a lamp base and still leave room beside it. The series includes a second side table, 45 cm high with a smaller top, and the two pair naturally as a duo.

Wood and stone

The top is solid oak or walnut, with softened edges. The base is travertine, a pale stone whose open pores show on the surface as small cavities. The contrast between wood and stone is what the piece is all about.

A top that reaches down into its base

The outline of the top curves inward on one side, and the tenon passes through this recess. This wooden tongue is the only visible part of the joint: it runs down the cone and cuts across the stone in a vertical strip.

Living with solid wood

Solid wood responds to the air in the room. Between 40 and 60% relative humidity it stays stable; in drier air it can shrink and show fine cracks, which close again when the humidity rises. Keep it away from radiators and air conditioning vents, and limit direct sunlight, which changes the color of the wood over time.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0973/8000/8263/files/table-d-appoint-anchor-53-cm-noyer-fonce-socle-travertin-face.jpg?v=1793259550
