The Pulo planters derive their character from the raw beauty of kubu rattan (Korthalsia), a fast-growing tropical vine whose stems are harvested, boiled, and hand-braided before developing their characteristic greige-golden hues. The bulbous silhouette — with a tapered base, generous belly, and flared opening — is a shape rooted in Southeast Asian basketry tradition, here reinterpreted for the contemporary market. The semi-open weave with wide horizontal meshes lends the whole a visual lightness that contrasts with the material's actual robustness. Pulo planters are made from kubu rattan (Korthalsia sp.), an exceptional natural material prized in high-end furniture and decoration for its superior resistance to ordinary rattan and its warm golden hues. Kubu is treated by natural boiling which gives it its characteristic greige tones and increased resistance to ambient humidity. The weaving is done entirely by hand, by wrapping rods around a vertical structure of thicker rattan which ensures the rigidity of the silhouette. The internal plastic lining is included and protects the plant structure from direct contact with damp soil. The slight surface irregularities visible between the rods are inherent in the nature of the material and are the hallmark of authentic handcrafted production.

Kubu rattan is naturally more resistant to moisture than standard rattans, which makes Pulo planters suitable for sheltered outdoor use (covered terrace, veranda, loggia). For optimal durability, avoid prolonged exposure to direct rain or intense UV rays which could discolor and weaken the fibers in the long term. Dust regularly with a soft brush or dry cloth. In case of light dirt, clean with a slightly damp cloth and allow to air dry, away from direct heat sources. The inner plastic lining is removable to facilitate cleaning of the planter. With minimal maintenance, kubu rattan develops a natural patina over time that enriches the piece's appearance.
