What is the difference between a candleholder, a hurricane and a lantern?

A candleholder holds a candle at its base, in the open air. A hurricane surrounds the flame with a glass or openwork wall, which diffuses the light and shields it from draughts. A lantern, more enclosed and often with a handle, works just as well indoors as on a terrace.

How do I style candleholders beautifully?

Group three pieces of different heights rather than a single one: the eye is drawn to the rhythm. Keep the same material or colour for unity, and vary the shapes for depth. A coffee table, a sideboard or a mantelpiece are the most flattering spots.

What size candle fits my candleholders?

Classic candleholders take a standard dinner candle, around 2 cm in diameter. For hurricanes and lanterns, choose a tealight or a pillar candle that suits the inside diameter. The usable diameter is stated on each product page.

Are these pieces still decorative when unlit?
