Storage baskets

Successful storage doesn't make things disappear; it gives them a designated place that you are comfortable leaving visible. This is the whole point of a natural fiber basket: it absorbs the clutter of a room while adding a texture that a closed piece of furniture never provides.

Organizing the living room

A large basket placed near the sofa can swallow throws, magazines, and evening games in one swift motion. It's the quickest way for a living room to regain its form without additional furniture. Models with handles can be moved from one room to another, which is more important than one might think when storage needs to follow usage. Magazine racks, in rattan or concrete, play the same role more assertively.

The laundry basket, an item we see every day

It's the most used and most poorly chosen item in the house. Aim for large rather than just right: a basket that's too small will overflow in two days and lose its purpose. Our models made of woven water hyacinth and fabric on a bamboo frame stand upright when empty, which is not the case with soft bags. In both bedrooms and bathrooms, prefer a breathable model over a closed and waterproof container.

Boxes, baskets, and small containers

Storage boxes, chests, tissue boxes, baskets, organizers, storage pots: these are the pieces that structure the interior of a shelf or a desk. An open shelf becomes neat as soon as three identical boxes align their fronts on it. Natural fibers, fabric, or concrete: what makes a difference

Our baskets are mainly made of hand-woven natural fibers: rattan, water hyacinth, bamboo, rush, paper straw. Each piece therefore has slight variations in shade and weave, which give it its value. However, these fibers require indoor use, away from prolonged humidity: a dusting with a dry cloth or soft brush is sufficient, never washing. A word about beaded models, mounted on a bamboo frame with beads strung row by row: they should be carried by the bottom and never by the edge, and a bead that protrudes should definitely not be pulled, otherwise the entire row will come undone. These are pieces to be placed set back from the edge of a piece of furniture rather than manipulated every day. Reserve them for a decorative role and keep classic woven baskets for movable storage.

Which basket size to choose?

Start with the use, not the location. For laundry, allow at least 50 liters for two people, otherwise it will overflow between two washes. For a living room, a large model 40 cm on each side will swallow a double throw and two cushions. For a shelf, measure the free height before the width: it's almost always the height that's the limiting factor, and a basket that's two centimeters too high won't fit.
