This vase is made from mouth-blown glass, one of the most demanding techniques in artisanal glassmaking. Each piece is individually hand-shaped; the molten glass is blown directly by the glassmaker, who imparts both its form and color. The matte black is achieved by adding pigments to the molten glass during firing, so the color is permanent, deep, and uniform, not applied to the surface or susceptible to flaking. The velvety, non-reflective finish is the result of a specific surface treatment applied after blowing.
