Track lighting is like a sentence: a line on the ceiling, light sources that you place where the room needs them, and that you move when the sofa changes walls. It's the answer when a single ceiling light isn't enough, and when drilling six holes for six fixed spots isn't an option.
Lighting a Worktop or Table
Above an island or a worktop, the light should fall where you're cutting, not behind your shoulder. A track line allows you to align two or three adjustable spots along the entire length of the surface, then reorient them down to the millimeter once the kitchen is in use. Wider strip lights diffuse continuous light where a spot would create patches. For a dining table, the track willingly combines with a central pendant light: the pendant sets the mood, while the spots provide true illumination.
Highlighting a Wall, Bookshelf, or Painting
This is where track lighting has no competition. A narrow beam placed at a good distance from a wall reveals its texture, highlights a series of frames, or brings a bookshelf to life in the evening. Our spots boast a color rendering index of up to 92, which is important when light falls on colors and textures you want to be faithful. Models with pivotable heads can be reoriented without tools when the display changes.
Choosing Your System, the Only Binding Decision
Everything hinges on this, and it must be decided before the first purchase.
- Magnetic track lighting operates on low voltage 48 V, safe to touch. The luminaires clip on magnetically and can be moved by hand, without tools and without cutting the power. However, it requires a dedicated power supply, a driver or external power supply, which converts 230 V to 48 V and is chosen according to the total power of the line.
- Three-phase track lighting operates directly on 230 V and carries three independent circuits: you distribute the luminaires over three separately controlled lines, which allows you to turn on accent lighting without turning on general lighting. No additional power supply is needed.
In practice: magnetic track for a living room that you rearrange, three-phase track for a long and stable installation with several ambiences in the same place.
One last point, and it cannot be compensated for with an adapter: the three systems are not interchangeable. We offer two magnetic systems, Magnetic and Micro11, and one three-phase system. A Magnetic luminaire cannot be mounted on a Micro11 track, and vice-versa: each family has its own profile and magnetic pitch. Micro11 is distinguished by a profile of only 11 mm, for an almost invisible line on the ceiling; Magnetic offers the widest choice of spots, strip lights, pendant lights, and luminous tubes. Choose the family first, then the luminaires.
Surface-mounted, Recessed, or Trimless
The installation method is decided at the same time as the system, as not all profiles are available in all versions.
- Surface-mounted: the track is fixed directly to the ceiling, no major work required. The solution for renovations, available in high or low profile depending on the desired discretion.
- Recessed: the track is integrated into a cavity, flush with the ceiling. It requires a false ceiling or a groove planned during design.
- Trimless recessed: the neatest finish, the track disappears into the ceiling with no visible frame. To be planned with the plasterer.
Tracks are available in 1 and 2-meter lengths, up to 3 meters for three-phase, and can be extended end-to-end. Angle, straight, L-shaped, or cross connectors allow you to design a U around a room or bypass a beam. A 55 cm curved track is available for rounded layouts.
When Recessed Spotlights are Better Than Tracks
Track lighting isn't always the right answer. In a hallway, bathroom, or bedroom where you're looking for discreet and definitive general lighting, a recessed spotlight is more suitable: nothing protrudes from the ceiling, the eye only sees the light. Our ranges cover common diameters, with fixed or adjustable heads and an installation depth to check before drilling. All our spotlights are integrated LED, with no bulbs to change, in warm white light of 3000 K and IP20, meaning for indoor use. To complete an installation, discover our ceiling lights and all our lighting fixtures.
What Does a Complete Track Lighting Line Consist Of?
A functional installation requires four elements, and one is often missing from the first shopping cart. You need the track of the correct length, the power supply (driver or external power supply for a magnetic system, nothing more than a connection for three-phase), the luminaires from the same family as the track, and the finishing accessories: connectors for extending or turning, end caps to close the ends, supports or cables for suspended installation. Calculate the cumulative power of your luminaires before choosing the driver: our power supplies range from 100 to 300 W.
