A tight weave, designed to last at the table:

• Hand-woven rattan in fine splints, spirally coiled
• Rolled edge that finishes the outline
• Rigid: it holds its shape and sits like a tray
• Brown hue obtained through firing, variations from one splint to another
• Craftsmanship: handmade, slight differences in color and weave from one piece to another

The oval is a rare shape for a table, and that is what makes it interesting: it follows the contour of a round plate and aligns better than a round one on a rectangular table. Its brown rattan warms up a light marble or wood tabletop, and pairs well with stoneware dishes, gold-tone cutlery, and linen napkins for a table with a casual, colonial feel.

What you need to know for use and care:

• Usage: under a plate, one placemat per guest
• Not a trivet: never place a dish straight from the oven on it
• Surface: barely damp cloth, never soak, as this loosens the weave
• Rolled edge: tip of a dry brush in the groove once a month
• Storage: in a well-ventilated area, away from humidity
