Sumba sandstone salt and pepper shaker set, beige, 7 cm

Key measurements for this tabletop duo:

• Height: 7 cm
• Base of each figure: 4 x 5 cm
• Weight of the duo: 400 g
• Packaging: one salt shaker and one pepper shaker
• Parcel: 18 x 18 x 9 cm

What gives these two small statues their character:

• Material: hand-carved sandstone
• Surface: sandy and chalky, left raw, without polishing
• Decoration: eyes and torso patterns in engraved circles, raised nose, pierced mouth
• Color: from very light sand to pinkish beige depending on the block
• Details of size and slight imperfections unique to each figure

It’s an object that brings a smile to your face before it’s even used, which is exactly what you want from a condiment that stays on the table all day long. Placed near the bread basket or on a woven placemat, these two little figures are better than a neutral glass duo that no one ever looks at, and they extend a raw, wabi-sabi inspired decor.

What you need to know to fill and maintain them:

• Filled from the bottom, opening sealed with a plug
• Food-safe
• Fill in small quantities: the porous stone causes the salt to clump
• Dusting: soft, dry cloth or brush
• No soapy water, no oil, no dishwasher
• A fixed spot, away from the edge: the stone breaks clean if it falls
