Frequently asked questions about lighting

How do I light a room properly?

Layer three kinds of light rather than relying on a single ceiling light: general lighting, softer ambient lighting and task lighting for reading or cooking. This layering avoids flat areas and lets you adjust the atmosphere throughout the day.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

For living areas and bedrooms, a warm light of around 2700 kelvin creates a restful atmosphere. For a worktop or a desk, a more neutral light of 3500 to 4000 kelvin helps you concentrate. You can combine both in the same room.

Which light for which room?

A pendant light defines the dining table and the kitchen island, a ceiling light brightens hallways and passageways, table and floor lamps set the mood in the living room, and a wall light keeps bedside tables clear. Choose the function first, then the style.

Does the light come with a bulb?

Our lights are delivered with their lamp holder, and the bulb base is stated on each product page, most often E27 or GU10. The bulb is not always included: this lets you choose the wattage and colour temperature that suit the room.

General lighting and ambient light

A ceiling light or pendant provides the main light; a table lamp or floor lamp creates softer zones in the evening. By combining the two, you can adjust a room's atmosphere at will.

Materials and finishes

Natural rattan, matt black metal, gilded brass, blown glass, ceramic: each light is an object in its own right, as beautiful switched off as on.

Which light for which room?
