What this set is made of:

• Material: raffia
• Spiral crocheted center, flat and even surface
• Fringe of loose strands around the entire edge
• Natural blonde shade
• Handmade: tone and texture may vary slightly from one piece to another

A wide fringe visually enlarges the place setting and fills the space between two plates on a bare table. This is what distinguishes this model from a clean, rectangular placemat: it dresses up the table rather than simply outlining it, and works all the better when there is less tableware. Its light-colored fiber pairs well with stoneware, raw wood, and marble alike, and takes on a more graphic appearance when used with black dishes.

How to use and care for it:

• Protects the table under the plate, one placemat per guest
• Not a trivet: never place dishes directly from the oven on it
• Do not wash with water: shake off and brush dry
• Trim any pulled fringe strands flush; they cannot be repaired
• Store flat, stacked
