Frequently asked questions about tables

What size dining table for my room?

Allow about 60 cm of width per guest and keep at least 90 cm around the table to move around and push the chairs back. A 120 cm table seats four, a 180 cm table seats six comfortably, and a 240 cm table, eight.

What height should a coffee table be?

A coffee table is most comfortable at the same height as the sofa seat, or slightly lower, often around 40 cm. Leave about 40 cm between the sofa and the table so you have legroom while keeping things within reach.

Which table shape for a dining room?

A rectangular table gives structure to a long room and seats a crowd. A round one, more sociable, keeps people moving freely in a square or tight space. An oval table offers a compromise: room for everyone without the corners, which helps in narrow passageways.

What is a console table for?

A console table dresses an entryway, a hallway or the back of a sofa without getting in the way, thanks to its shallow depth. It holds a lamp, a mirror or a few objects, and marks the transition between two spaces while offering discreet storage.

Coffee Tables

The coffee table is the central piece of the living room, around which the entire composition revolves. Marble top on slender legs, solid wood with softened edges, tempered glass on a metal structure: shapes ranging from the most minimalist to the most sculptural. Some come with a practical nesting top, perfect for entertaining.

Dining Tables

The dining table brings family and friends together. Sizes for 4 to 10 guests, in solid wood for robustness and character, or in ceramic or glass for a contemporary look. Consider extension models if you often entertain.

Side Tables and Consoles

Small in size, big in utility: a side table holds a lamp or a coffee without cluttering, a console dresses up an entryway or the back of a sofa. In wood, gilded metal, or ceramic, they fit anywhere.

Desks

A desk is a workspace, and it should be chosen as such: a top deep enough for a screen and an open notebook side-by-side, a height of around 75 cm, and a design that can be permanently on display in a living area. In a small space, a deep console or a tall side table can serve the same purpose while taking up less room, and return to being ordinary furniture in the evening.

Which table for which room?

For a living room, aim for a coffee table at the height of the sofa's seat, approximately 40 cm. For the dining room, allow 60 cm width per guest. Match your table to your chairs and create a cohesive living room or dining room.
