What this vase is made of:

• Material: ceramic
• Shape: three stacked bulges on a cylindrical base
• Surface: matte and speckled throughout, with deliberate dents and bumps
• Rim: irregular, slightly wavy
• Interior: dark speckled, visible from the opening
• Color: taupe gray speckled with beige

Its silhouette of stacked bubbles draws from studio pottery, and its speckled finish aligns it more with stone than smooth earthenware. This taupe-gray looks just as good against a light-colored wall as it does on light wood, and it softens a room already busy with patterns. As part of a group, it works well with a smaller, lighter vase placed next to it, as seen in our photos, or with travertine and marble objects whose grain it echoes.

Ways to use it daily:

• Three or four tall stems are enough; the neck keeps them upright
• A short, dense bouquet sits directly on the neck
• Dried grasses and artificial stems are the easiest to live with
• Designed for the home: console, dining table, sideboard, or wide shelf
