The sphere can be viewed from all angles, unlike a cube whose faces are visible: this is what allows the Oculare to be repeated in series along a corridor without the alignment appearing rigid. Alone above a painting, or in pairs on either side of a bed, it provides directed yet soft lighting. This is the spherical version of the Merida design, to be chosen when the cube seems too technical.
