Black terracotta shallow casserole dish with lid 29 cm

Key measurements, for your oven as well as your table:

• Length, including handles: 29 cm
• Width: 24 cm
• Height: 10 cm
• Weight: 3 kg
• Package: 32 x 26 x 16 cm

What gives it character:

• Material: unglazed terracotta
• Color: black, achieved through smoke firing
• Mineral surface with a slight satin finish, bronze and bluish highlights depending on the light
• Throwing ridges visible on the body and base
• Two pierced handles, hand-applied before firing
• Lid featuring a recessed basin around its knob
• Unique piece: textures and shades vary from one casserole to another

Black earthenware behaves like cast iron at the table: it absorbs light instead of reflecting it, making the colors of its contents stand out. Its low, bulbous shape, closer to a cauldron than a modern Dutch oven, gives it a presence that enameled pieces lack. On a dark wood table, with a linen cloth and some fresh herbs, it creates a raw, warm atmosphere, from the kitchen to the dining room.

What it can withstand, and how to keep it for a long time:

• Food-safe
• Oven: yes
• Microwave: yes
• Dishwasher: no
• Hand wash, gently, in very hot water without detergent
• Avoid thermal shock: a sudden change from cold to hot can cause it to crack
• Natural and complete drying before storage, with the lid open
