Blackened terracotta covered casserole dish 24 cm

Key measurements to help you make an informed choice:

• Diameter: 24 cm
• Height: 15 cm
• Servings: four to six
• Weight: 3 kg
• Package: 27 x 27 x 18 cm

What gives it its character:

• Material: terracotta blackened by smoke firing, unglazed
• Craftsmanship: handmade, body wheel-thrown, knob turned separately and attached
• Shape: round body with an incurved neck, two raised rings on the shoulder, domed lid
• Appearance: wheel marks and brown highlights, color variations from one piece to the next

A black earthenware casserole carries an entire aesthetic of slow cooking, and that is exactly what it brings to a table: a curry simply isn't presented the same way in an ordinary dish. The lid, which one lifts in front of guests, is part of the meal rather than the cooking process. Set on a marble countertop or at the center of a wooden table, it remains beautiful even between uses.

To use and keep it looking beautiful:

• Uses: curries, stews, and slow-cooked dishes, from cooking to serving
• Food safe: yes
• Oven: yes
• Microwave: yes
• Dishwasher: no
• Hand wash, then dry completely before storing
• Leave open to dry overnight before replacing the lid
• Carry with both hands by the body, never by the knob
